durrrr Wins Another $871k - Up $2m in 2 Days
After an 18 month hiatus from the online poker tables following Black Friday the return of Tom "durrrr" Dwan to Full Tilt last year did not produce the kind of results we'd come to expect from one of the online games most successful players as he quickly dropped seven figures in relatively few appearances at the table.
Poker forums were awash with criticism for the one time poster boy of the online high stakes scene, with people claiming that in his time away from the virtual felt had left him off the pace, that the rest of the world had caught up and that he was no longer a force to be reckoned with online after endless months feasting on the high stakes "fish" in Macau.
The past 48 hours have certainly laid those theories to rest as he has mercilessly crushed the best in the world to the tune of over $2.1m in a relentless display of power poker at the PLO and 2-7 Triple Draw NL tables.
Yesterday the majority of Dwan's winnings came from the $250/$500 PLO tables where he won over half a million dollars, including a $394k win at table Cathy yesterday afternoon in just 81 hands playing against the likes of Ben "Bttech86" Tollerene, Phil "OMGClayAiken" Galfond and patpatpanda. It will come as no surprise that durrrr posted his biggest hands of the day during this brief but hugely successful session. Here are his biggest two;
Galfond discovers he is drawing dead to running sixes after getting his money in about as bad as is possible in this $283.1k pot
patpatpanda is very unlucky to lose both runs at this pot, especially on the second run - $266.9k pot
Talking of big pots, yesterday also saw the biggest pot we've seen online for two years. Both of the days biggest pots in fact were taken down by the same player as patpatpanda enjoyed +$353.5k day;
OMGClayAiken may be ahead with an over pair and a higher wrap draw but it's the lower straight which completes for patpatpanda in this bankroll busting $553.1k pot
Bttech86 is drawing very thin when he gets his money in as patpatpanda rakes in this $301.8k pot
durrrr also continued his success at the NL triple draw tables, winning another c.$300k to add to the seven figure haul he made the previous day. The biggest winner at the NL TD tables yesterday however was punting-peddler who won over $360k at the 2-7 TD $200/$400 NL tables.
Of course with such big winners there were inevitably big losers, with Galfond and Tollerene both dropping over half a million dollars, with Phil "Polarizing" Ivey not far behind
Many of the big names have also been back today, although durrrr is currently the biggest loser so far - although currently less than $180k down today I'm sure he won't be quaking in his boots just yet.
You have to hand it to the Full Tilt marketing department on their choice of Pro's - it was always their mission to re-establish Full Tilt as "The home of high stakes poker" and in just a few short months they have already achieved their aim, and you really can't underestimate the role their three pro's have played in that. All three (Gus Hansen, Tom Dwan, and Viktor Blom) give action to get action and wherever they play they bring the other high stakes players with them. Although The Great Dane is running badly right now, he has certainly brought players to the table and, just like Dwan and Blom, he is capable of making huge comebacks as well as huge losses.
Be sure to come back to HighstakesDB tomorrow to see how the day pans out for Dwan and co.
