Nevada Governor supports inter-state online gambling measure

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval has urged legislators in the western American state to quickly approve a proposed measure that would permit locally licensed online gaming operators to accept wagers from players in other jurisdictions.

The Republican released a statement on Friday asking that the planned Assembly Bill 5 be approved by the Nevada Assembly and the Nevada Senate within the next 30 days in order to ensure the state maintains its position as a leader in the nation’s emerging iGaming sector.

Sandoval’s statement followed last week’s decision by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie to issue a conditional veto on proposed online gambling legislation that would have seen New Jersey become the third American state after Nevada and Delaware to legalise online waging. However, Internet gambling proponents can be optimistic after the Republican stated that he would approve the bill if it contained a ten-year trial period and higher tax rates on casinos.

“In light of the developments in New Jersey yesterday, the need to act quickly has become even more important,” said Sandoval.

The state’s legislature began its latest four-month session on Monday while the proposed Assembly Bill 5 would eliminate the current prohibition on Nevada-licensed online gambling operators accepting wagers from across state lines.
