PokerStars to Help with Hippodrome’s Live Tournament Series, “Winter Classic”
PokerStars assisting in the running of the event ahead of an official reopening of the Hippodrome’s poker deck “later in the year.”

London’s Hippodrome Casino has announced its first significant poker event with the debut of the casino’s Winter Classic in early February.
The Hippodrome’s expansion of poker comes following an investment in the venue in late 2012 by online giant PokerStars, and continues a remaking of London poker venues, following December’s shuttering of the nearby Genting-owned Fox Club.
The Hippodrome’s Winter Classic, which runs February 7-8, is a no-limit 250+25 tourney with 25k guaranteed and a cap of 200 entrants.
The new PokerStars Poker Deck continues to undergo renovations and will not have its official reopening until later in the year.
A 'Stars official, responding to a pokerfuse inquiry, indicated that the poker room’s involvement would be minimal for the Winter Classic, despite the ongoing changes at the Hippodrome.
“The PS-sponsored Poker Deck is not opening until later in the year (date TBC) and PokerStars is not really involved with the Winter Classic, apart from the fact we’ll be helping out by providing a tournament director, some equipment and assist in the running of the event,” pokerfuse was informed.
Nonetheless, PokerStars is offering some online satellite entries to the event, along with live-qualifier sit-n-goes already being held at the Hippodrome.
PokerStars’ investment in the London casino is one of three such ventures undertaken by 'Stars parent Rational Group in recent months.
