Isildur1 Closes January Up $2.4 Million in Online Cash GamesThe month of January was monumental for Viktor Isildur1 Blom (pictured), who got the new year started off with a vengeance by raking in $2.4 million in online poker cash games, according to HighStakesDB. Ironically, he banked $2.7 million in the first week of 2013 before falling off a bit, but the high-stakes player is definitely back in full force. Blom, Tom Dwan, and Gus Hansen are all sponsored pros at Full Tilt Poker, which reopened its doors in the first week of November under its new ownership, PokerStars.
According to HighStakesDB's records, Blom banked $564,000 on the first day of the calendar year at 2-7 Triple Draw and Omaha Eight or Better. On January 2, he shed $116,000 to fellow poker pro Scott Seiver, but rebounded one day later with a $700,000 cash influx. The fourth day of January saw Blom rake in another $715,000, while nearly a quarter of a million bucks was his for the taking on January 5.
A Triple Draw session on January 6 against Alexonmoon sent Blom's bankroll shooting up another $344,000. Then, to close out the first seven days of 2013, Blom raked in $273,000 despite losing $400,000 in a session against PostFlopAction.
Blom wasn't done there, however. January 8 was blockbuster for Blom, who piled up $1.3 million in winnings. HighStakesDB narrated, "He made much of his money from a return to the tables of Phil OMGClayAiken Galfond (pictured), whom he took for around $450,000 between heads-up sessions at the $250/$500 PLO tables and Triple Draw tables before he took on Ben Sauce1234 Sulsky in the first of a few $400/$800 deep with antes HU PLO sessions we were to see this week. Blom had the best of this session, beating his opponent for $743,000."
In one of the largest hands Blom recorded in January, after a pre-flop raise war, the first three cards in a $400/$800 Pot Limit Omaha game came 8-A-10 rainbow. Sulsky checked and Blom responded by betting $8,800 into a pot of $16,000. Sulsky called and the turn was the 2h, putting two of the suit out there. Sulsky once again rapped the table, Blom bet $26,400, and Sulsky called.
The final card in the hand was the 6h. Sulsky (pictured) pushed out a monster bet of $68,500, more than many people make in a year, and Blom put him all-in. Sulsky called to build a pot of $428,000 and the hole cards were revealed. Blom showed Ah-7h-7c-8c for the nut flush and Sulsky mucked.
Here is one of our articles outlining Blom's early success. You can also read about his $1.3 million weekend. Blom ultimately sputtered down the stretch in January, losing over $1 million to Galfond at Pot Limit Omaha in one day. Twenty-four hours later, he dropped nearly $600,000 at Omaha Eight or Better and Triple Draw games. Nevertheless, it will go down as a watershed month for the Swedish pro now living in the United Kingdom.
According to HighStakesDB, here were the top five earners in January:
1. Isildur1: +$2.42 million
2. SallyWoo: +$1.62 million
3. PostFlopAction: +$1.49 million
4. OMGClayAiken: +$1.36 million
5. Bttech86: +$861,00
In case you're wondering, Phil Ivey, who has been spotted on Full Tilt under the user name Polarizing, was up $200,000 in January and is even since his former site reopened last November.
